Psychic. Can read any mind

Yes, the sign hanging in my window says “Psychic. Can read any mind.” but never in my dreams I expected a General from the US army to show up at my doorstep in full regalia followed by his entourage.

The General asked me to close shop and get in the truck waiting outside. I didn’t feel like I had a choice. We drove for 2 hours into the desert and they briefed me on the way. We stopped in what appeared to be the middle of nowhere and got off. A half white moon hung in the blue sky of day. The sun was unforgiving.

Up ahead I could see a large black oval object surrounded by cranes. It had to be it. I never saw a blackest back. Even in the middle of the day I could see no details on its surface. Next to it a large screen partition of about 20 feet tall hung from two poles. Behind it I could see two shadows almost as tall as the screen.

“The creatures are waiting” said a young woman in a white plastic protection suit.

So it’s real, I thought to myself. This nonsense of the landing, and the ship from outer space and the telepathic aliens. Is all real.

One of the shadows moved. Even from behind the screen I could feel the thing turn around to face me.

“You know General,” I said gesturing nervously, “I would never trust somebody like me. I really don’t have that much of a mind-reading ability. That was mostly my mum.”

A shriek came from behind the screen and suddenly my vision blurred. I closed my eyes and I saw it. I saw it all. I saw clouds of dark storm swirl above our heads. I saw hurricanes blow the land dry. And I saw the sky turn red and the whole Earth be covered in flames.

I opened my eyes. They were all looking at me.

“But what is it?” the General screamed in my face “What did you see?”

“I’m not sure, sir. But I don’t think they come in peace.”
