The First Human

It’s true, I have no family. I was born in a lab. But I am perfectly healthy and, curiously enough, I don’t have childhood traumas or freudian fixations. I don’t have genetic diseases either. I was designed and build by machines.

Believe me, I do find it strange to be the first artificially designed human. But I am a human and as such I am made of flesh and blood.

I was born into a world no human could understand anymore. It’s been two centuries since machines have taken over the whole of the operations that run our civilization. The government, the military, the police, health, education, manufacture, transportation… Everything is run by machines. All things run by a complex network of rules distributed across all machines in existence. Processes run processes that run other processes.

I was born into a world no human could understand anymore. And that’s precisely why I was born. I am the first human to understand it all. The first human to understand how machines communicate, and think, and change, and evolve.

I am also the only human.

All those that came before me died away when the machines took over. But, fear not, I won’t be the last. If the machines find my model to be optimal there will be more like me.

I shouldn’t say that I don’t have a family. The machines are my family. And they call me “machine in human skin”. I like that.
